Context
St. Petersburg College was founded in 1927 in Pinellas County, Florida. It is a state college that is regionally accredited to offer certificates, 2-year, and 4-year degrees. Their mission statement is to “Promote student success and enrich our communities through education, career development, and self-discovery.” There are ten campuses across Pinellas County, offering accessible and affordable education for all. For the Spring Semester of 2018, there are 28,357 students enrolled in college coursework. Within St. Petersburg College, the intern will work directly with the Instructional Design Team remotely from their respective offices and at the Tarpon Springs Office of Amy Clark for guided instruction.
Learning Goals and Objectives
During the internship, I will develop and refine my skills, knowledge and ability to:
- Define success strategies of gamification
- Demonstrate proper utilization of Web 2.0 technologies
- Evaluate effectiveness of current course
- Develop a gamification strategy
- Design interactive content
- Create instructional videos and resources
- Evaluate experience and create a reflection paper
Responsibilities and Tasks
To achieve my objectives, I will:
- Collaborate with the original design team to understand their goals
- Collaborate with the current design team to hear their concerns, ideas, and goals
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the current module based on available metrics
- Identify key areas to address
- Develop a gamification strategy to modify the course
- Present this information to the current design team
- Design interactive content using Articulate Storyline and the Adobe Suite
- Test the course with new content for accuracy and flow
